Old MacDonald Had a Farm Book Review (Tiger Tales)

Old MacDonald Had a Farm  illustrated by Hannah Wood brings 12 familiar children's songs with sweet illustrations in a sturdy board book.  Babies and young children will learn these songs quickly and enjoy the colorful pictures.  The songs are short, but filled with great rhymes and parents are sure to be asked to read this book over and over again.

This new book from Tiger Tales is a great first board book for babies and young toddlers.  Children need to be exposed to nursery rhymes and traditional songs early in life.  And it's very helpful for parents to not have to think of all these songs off the top of their head, but to have a cute little book to cuddle up with their child and sing away.  Have fun!

For ages 2-5

Fall Bible Reading Adventure- Ending Survey

Thank you for being part of the Fall Bible Reading Adventure for children here on Milk N' Honey Learn and Grow.  I truly appreciate you taking the time to spend a few minutes of your day reading God's Word to your children.  I have been challenged and I must admit that I wasn't as faithful to read to them as I am with my own daily Bible study.  But my desire is to make God's Word a priority for my little ones.

Please fill out this ENDING SURVEY for me!  Thanks!!  -Shonda

19 Things We Should Say to Our Children

This was a list on Facebook.  I am going to print it out and read it often and say these things to my kids.  How about you?  Blessings, Shonda

19 Things we should say to Children
1. I love you! There is nothing that will make me stop loving you. Nothing you could do or say or think will ever change that.

2. You are amazing! I look at you with wonder! Not just at what you can do, but who you are. There is no one like you. No one!

3. It’s all right to cry. People cry for all kinds of reasons: when they are hurt, sad, glad, or worried; when they are angry, afraid, or lonely. Big people cry too. I do.

4. You’ve made a mistake. That was wrong. People make mistakes. I do. Is it something we can fix? What can we do? It’s all over. You can start fresh. I know you are sorry. I forgive you.

5. You did the right thing. That was scary or hard. Even though it wasn’t easy, you did it. I am proud of you; you should be too.

6. I’m sorry. Forgive me. I made a mistake.

7. You can change your mind. It’s good to decide, but it is also fine to change.

8. What a great idea! You were really thinking! How did you come up with that? Tell me more. Your mind is clever!

9. That was kind. You did something helpful and thoughtful for that person. That must make you feel good inside. Thank you!

10. I have a surprise for you. It’s not your birthday. It’s for no reason at all. Just a surprise, a little one, but a surprise.

11. I can wait. We have time. You don’t have to hurry this time.

12. What would you like to do? It’s your turn to pick. You have great ideas. It’s important to follow your special interests.

13. Tell me about it. I’d like to hear more. And then what happened? I’ll listen.

14. I’m right here. I won’t leave without saying good-bye. I am watching you. I am listening to you.

15. Please and Thank You. These are important words. If I forget to use them, will you remind me?

16. I missed you. I think about you when we are not together!

17. Just try. A little bit. One taste, one step. You might like it. Let’s see. I’ll help you if you need it. I think you can do it.

18. I’ll help you. I heard you call me, here I am. How can I help you? If we both work together, we can get this done. I know you can do it by yourself, but I’m glad to help since you asked.

19. What do you wish for? Even if it’s not yet time for birthday candles and we don’t have a wishbone, it’s still fun to hear about what you wish for, hope for, and dream about.

I love you, Shrade and Jessna!

Warrior Prayers- 21 Days of Prayer in December

Lately, my heart has been aching for my 4 year old son.  I know he is so young, but he has so many "sinful" habits that are forming fast and I feel like I fail so many times a day in how I handle his behavior.  I know these things are normal, but I pray daily that my son's heart will be captured by God.  I'm floundering around and not feeling very productive in my prayer life so I'm going to spend December (weekdays only) praying through the Warrior Prayers ebook.  I know this season is SO busy, but will you take a few minutes each day in intense prayer for your little man.  The world is pulling our sons and we need to cover them in prayer.  And I know that by praying these prayers I will be changed too!

Will you consider joining me?

ABC Animal Jamboree by Giles Andreae Book Review (Tiger Tales)

ABC Animal Jamboree  by Giles Andreae is a fun book to learn about animals from A to Z and what makes each one special. The rhymes make this book feel like a party!  The illustrations are colorful and vibrant and children will learn new animal names while learning the alphabet.  Jam on!!

This new book from Tiger Tales is a silly way to expand a child's wonder of animals while learning letters.  The author and illustrator (David Wojtowycz) make a special effort to combine educational facts with gripping pictures and a book that will be read over and over as kids delight in  the playful game of animal antics.

About A Bear by Holly Surplice Book Review (Tiger Tales)

About A Bear  by Holly Surplice is a cute story about a bear who experiences different emotions (happy, sad, bored, glad) and tries many activities (chasing butterflies, climbing trees and splashing in streams).  Along the way he attracts many friends and in the end he can hug and cuddle with them.

This new book from Tiger Tales is fun and entertaining.  The illustrations are bold and beautiful.  By the end of this book every child will want to be a frolicking bear and cuddle with mom and dad under a soft blanket.  This book lends to great discussions about emotions and feelings.  Be sure to hug your "little bear" after reading this story!

The Great Fairy Tale Disaster by David Conway Book Reivew (Tiger Tales)

The Great Fairy Tale Disaster  by David Conway takes you on another wild ride through the pages of various fairy tales.  The Big Bad Wolf is tired of huffing and puffing at the three little pigs so he decides to waltz way for a change.  He frightens Cinderella, gets scared by the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk and accidentally gets kissed by Sleeping Beauty's prince.  There is no end to the scrapes he creates and before you can say "not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin" the Big Bad Wolf has created chaos.  He flees back to the pigs and falls into the hot water.  All is well that ends well!

This new book from Tiger Tales is funny, creative and has dazzling artwork.  It helps to know all the great fairy tales as you will certainly laugh at the antics and quirky ways David Conway has the wolf diving into.  I think this book is even better for adults, but kids will enjoy it too!

For ages 3-7

I Want a Pet by Cathy Morrison Book Review (Tiger Tales)

I Want a Pet!  by Cathy Morrison is the story about a boy who wants a pet.  He goes to the zoo only to find pets-to-be too high, too low, too fast, and too slow.  Meanwhile, the pet he ends up with at the end has been following him all day long.  Find out who is "just right."

This new book from Tiger Tales is sure to please any young child who is desperate for a pet.  I know that when I was little, I LOVED my dog and we had always had him.  And even as an adult, we have had pets dropped in our lap, but someday I know we will have to go looking for a pet for our children.  This book is a perfect introduction to finding that pet who fits in to the family just right.  With simple words and rhyming text, your child will love to snuggle up to their favorite pet when finished reading this book.

The Preschool of Rock's "Everything Makes a Sound" by Michael Napolitano CD Review

There is nothing more exciting to me than a distinctively different sound that is both fascinating and inviting.  Michael Napolitano is a master at creating a very original soundtrack that embodies so many unique noises and sounds blending together to form body-moving music.  This album is sure to be on the top play list of any preschooler.  Both of my kids just jump up and down when I put this CD in.  I was very impressed with the "Safari Song," I felt like we were in the jungle.  And my son really liked the "Cupcake Song" when he could run, run, run and stop!  Michael also teaches classes for kids and parents and he is very engaging and exciting.   The song "Everything Makes a Sound" is composed of house keys, a book, compressed air, a paper towel, voices, whistles, tape, scratched glass, a bouncy ball, a glass jug, wrenches, clapping hands, an electric drill, knocking on wood, a chain and rice.  No traditional instruments were used in this song.  You will love this CD!!

Laying down a beat, from Doo-Wop to Blue Man Group ...

PRESCHOOL OF ROCK'S
EVERYTHING MAKES A SOUND

"A former music specialist at The Blue Man Group's Creativity Center (now the Blue School) in New York, Michael Napolitano is founder of Preschool of Rock, a curriculum-based music program designed to adhere to National Association for the Education of Young Children standards." -- 2012 Parents' Choice Awards "Fun Stuff" review of Preschool of Rock's Dance Party

METUCHEN, NJ -- Building on the momentum of their 2012 Parents' Choice winning album, Dance Party, Preschool of Rock charts new kids' music territory -- defining life as rhythm -- with the December 4 release of their third studio CD, Everything Makes a Sound (Preschool of Rock Records, $14.99, for ages birth - 8, run time 33 minutes).

Everything Makes a Sound features singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Michael Napolitano who, as a second-generation drummer, lives and breathes rhythm.  Michael, founder of the popular New Jersey-based Preschool of Rock music classes, is well aware that rhythm, an intrinsic aspect of childhood from patty cake to jumping rope, provides the motor for individual development and a framework for social connections with other kids.

Michael Napolitano grew up in a home filled with music making.  His dad, Tony Napolitano, had several Top 10 hits as drummer wtih the '50s doo-wop group, The Ideals.  This band toured with Fabian, Frankie Avalon, and Joey Dee and the Starlighters, opened for Count Basie in Jersey City, and played the Jerry Lewis Telethon.  Tony later joined the sensational doo-wop band Chang Lee & The Zani-Acts, performing alongside a young Joe Pesci, who sang first tenor.

With memories of his earliest musical experiences prominent in his mind, Michael Napolitano wanted to make a Preschool of Rock record for what he calls "the me of 30 years ago," a boy who, even when very young, wanted to hear tunes with a more sophisticated voice, in different styles and genres.  On Everything Makes a Sound, he's included tribal rhythms ("Safari Song"), indie melodic hooks ("Shake It"), and even punk beats ("Cupcake Song").

Another tremendous influence on Michael Napolitano's music was his association with Blue Man Group.  He spent eight years in the organization's creative production department, working closely with its founders in the areas of music, sound, and research & development. Michael's experiences wth Blue Man Group during this period of dramatic growth and creativity -- making records, traveling the world, collaborating with world-renowned artists -- had a major impact on his Preschool of Rock recordings and on the props and instruments he uses in Preschool of Rock music classes.

Preschool of Rock has previously released two albums:  Dance Party (2011) and When I'm Jumpin' (2010).

Everything Makes a Sound will be available at CDbaby.com and iTunes.

The Preschooler's Bible by V. Gilbert Beers Book Review and Giveaway!!

The Preschooler's Bible by V. Gilbert Beers is an exciting new way to share God's Word with preschoolers (age 4-5).  There are 101 stories written to the learning level and attention span of a preschooler with beautiful, high quality art.  This Bible is written so a preschooler can connect with the simple language and also gives opportunity for the parent and child to interact with the stories.  The heart of this author shines through the goal for this Bible "to grow children God's way to help them become God's people."  Children grow spiritually in three ways- believe, become, behave.  We want children to learn to accept God's teaching and love it!  We want them to have roots in Jesus and embrace his character traits in their lives.  And when they start to believe and become who God wants them to be, they will learn to behave in a Christ-like way.  This only happens with consistent and loving exposure to God's Word.  A great feature of this Bible iare the lessons  and character values your child will learn as you teach them with intention.  Take time to review the stories with your child and teach the lessons from the stories that will bring the story close to your child's heart.  There is an appendix section in the back of the Bible listing all the lessons and values.

The Preschooler's Bible is absolutely amazing and very friendly for a preschooler to share with a parent.  I enjoyed the short, simple stories that clearly share God's Word in meaningful ways.  My son and I really enjoy sitting down and reading this Bible together and discussing the story and pictures.  I look forward to taking a deeper look with the stories through the lessons and values outlined at the back of the Bible.  I'm so excited to share God's Word with my child so that he will come to know God better and be drawn to Him in amazing ways.

*I was given a complimentary copy of this Bible in exchange for my honest review.*

The Fox in the Dark by Alison Green Book Review (Tiger Tales)

Fox in the Dark  by Alison Green is a great bedtime story as rabbit rushes through the night to hide in his burrow from the fox in the dark.  Duck, Mouse and Lamb show up as well to impose on rabbit.  But when the little fox shows up scared that he's lost his mom, the animals befriend him with cuddles and reassurance.  Then mama shows up and wants to stay, but there is no room on the bed!  What do the animals do?  Find out in this heartwarming story.

This new book from Tiger Tales is a fun rhyming adventure that will enchant your child.  There are sound effects and great conversations between the animals.  I loved how the animals each conveyed their utter fear of the fox in the dark, but were relieved that the fox wasn't as scary as they thought.  Your child will be sure to ask you to read this story over and over again.

For ages 3-7
