Hope for the Weary Mom Guest Post

I was a Kindergarten teacher for 12 years and I totally thought I would be a "good" mother.  I could manage 25 students and their parents with relative professional ease, I could certainly handle being a home manager with two little kids with no problem.  Or so I thought!  I was very wrong. ...

Join me today over at Hope for the Weary Mom Book Club as I share about chapter 2 "When Your Weakness is All You Can See."

My name is Shonda and I blog at Milk N' Honey Learn and Grow. My husband and I have been married for 8 years and we have an energetic and fun-loving 4 year old son and a precious 1 year old girl! I am a SAHM (after 12 years of teaching K) and we are very healthy and strive to be holy.  I love to read, teach, cook, clean and organize my home.

Hope for the Weary Mom Book Review and Giveaway

I became a mother in 2004 to my handsome son who is now almost 4 years old. I was totally unprepared for the demands and endless sacrifices I needed to make in order to take care of this tiny bundle that God gave to me.  I didn't really understand the complete task God had for me at the time.  I was just trying to survive.  I cried more than I have ever cried in my life as a mom.  In 2011, when my son was 2.5 years old, I gave birth to a little girl.  Having two children really brought out some ugly behaviors in me.  All of a sudden my "perfect" world was in utter chaos and it was ALL day and ALL night long!  I was frustrated and angry that I couldn't care for two kids like I had envisioned before I became a mom.  I wondered "what is wrong with me?"  I used to have it together and now everyday is an emotional roller coaster.  I can't tell you how many times I have cried on my knees to God and said "I can't do this job! I failed!"  But in His Grace, he found me, picked me up and gave me HOPE.

I read Hope for the Weary Mom: Where God Meets You in Your Mess by Stacey Thacker and Brooke McGlothlin when I needed it most.  I found I was not the only mom who went through these daunting times.  I realized I was a mess!  Stacey and Brooke share some honest and soul searching stories of their mess and how they found hope.  It's not in having a perfect schedule or getting up and making yourself beautiful everyday but it is the redeeming work of Jesus on the cross to draw you to Him when you have nowhere else to go.  It's in giving up every part of who you ever thought you were as a mom and laying it at his feet.  You will go through tough times with your children and who will you turn to?  I identified so strongly with both Stacey and Brooke as they shared their weaknesses.  I was very encouraged and humbled as I read their stories of faith and hope.

This book is a MUST HAVE for all moms!  I highly recommend it and I pray that your life will be utterly changed by an unchanging God who desires to claim you as his own and give you the HOPE you need to fulfill your calling as a mother.

This book has several resources such as Bible verses, study questions, blog links and a H.O.P. E. download.

"The point of Hope for the Weary Mom is to help mamas to point their eyes and hearts to Christ." ~Hope for the Weary Mom
