Look Out, Ladybug! by Jack Tickle

 

This book is absolutely adorable.  Ladybug is learning how to fly and she takes lots of spinning and tumbles.  She runs into all kinds of animal friends.  The best part about this book are the dotted lines that show the path of Ladybug's practice flying.  This is great for little fingers to trace.

Hands Off My Honey! by Jane Chapman

 

A big scary bear yells "Hands off My Honey!"  He stomps around the forest and says he won't share.  A group of animals- mouse, rabbit brothers and mole, devise a plan to get a taste of that honey.  Mole doesn't seem to know how to creep along the ground and ends up giving away the sneaky plan.  However, Big Scary Bear is all just a game anyway and they ask to play again!  This is a funny book that ended with a twist that cute and quirky!

Hugless Douglas and the Big Sleepover by David Melling

 

Douglas the bear is excited to have a sleepover at Rabbit's house.  On his way, he falls into a bush and ends up inviting a sheep to come with him as well as the 9 other sheep stuck to his back.  There is no room for Douglas.  He tries to get wedged in Rabbit's hole and ends up sneezing on the sheep's fleece.  One by one all the sheep pop out of the ground.  Rabbit ends up reading a story to everyone outside by the tree.  This is a cute book about an overgrown bear who is loveable and more than cuddly.

What Goes UP by Paula Bowles

 

Martin is a sad dragon who wants to fly, but his wings aren't big enough.  He thinks that if he looks like a yellow jacket he can fly or if he sits in a tree he can fly like a leaf.  Neither of these things work.  The children were sad for Martin too, so they tried a game to help Martin believe in himself- flapping wings daily.  And before he knew it, Martin had developed large, strong wings so he could fly!  This was a sweet book about the friendship and encouragement of some children to a special dragon.

Snack Time for Confetti by Kali Stileman

 

Confetti is really hungry and is telling all her friends.  They offer her the food they like to eat.  But she says "Yuck!"  Then she comes home to mama and gets wiggly worm, a beautiful beetle, a speedy spider, a creepy crawling caterpillar, and a skinny stick insect.  She says "Yum!"  Everyone else says "Yuck!" This is a great book for learning about what other animals eat and the pictures are very colorful to capture the attention of young ones.

 

 

Farmer's Market Day by Shanda Trent

 

 

A little girl is ready for farmer's market day.  Armed with her wagon and cute purse she walks with her family through the variety of fruits and vegetables.  She's excited to try bread, honey and hats.  But she finally finds what she wants the most- a watering can.  Kids will learn that a farmer's market is wonderful place to visit and this is a great book to introduce kids to the upcoming season.

 

What a Wonderful World by Suzanne Chew

 

 

This gentle and quiet book shares the beautiful world that God made with hymn-like prose set in soft colors following a mama bear and her cub.  This is a great book to share awe and reverence for our Creator.

I Want My Mommy!  by Tracey Corderoy

 

Arthur the mouse is not excited to stay with grandma without his mommy for the WHOLE day.  He grows like a dragon, but knows he has no choice in the matter.  His grandma tries to distract him by playing games with him, but he is not put off especially when he hears the doorbell.  But it is either the mailman or the neighbor.  When mommy finally comes he is having so much fun!  This is a great book to read to kids who need to spend extended time away from mommy.  Mommy will always come back.

Red Riding Hood and the Sweet Little Wolf by Rachel Mortimer

 

Sweet Little Wolf is not like her parents- Big and Bad.  She loves things pretty and pink and fairy tales.  But she is asked to get dinner for her family.  She follows Red Riding Hood to her grandmothers house.  Red is reading a  fairy tale and Sweet Little Wolf forgets her mission.  Sweet Little Wolf cries when discovered by Red and Red writes a letter to Sweet Little Wolf's parents explaining that she wants to be a good and kind wolf.  Surprisingly the parents agree.  What a funny spin off of Little Red Riding Hood!

The Three Billy Goats Fluff by Rachel Mortimer

 



The Three Billy Goats Fluff are afraid of Mr. Troll who lives under the bridge.  He threatens to eat them.  Meanwhile, the mother, who own her own knitting stores knits up 12 booties for her kids to walk over the bridge so as not to disturb the troll.  She writes a nice letter asking the troll to be nice if the billy goats are quiet.  He agrees and tries with all his might to hear them, but the booties cover the noisy hooves.  Then the mother sends him a nice set of earmuffs and a blanket.  This is a unique spin off from the classic Three Billy Goats Gruff.

Splish, Splash, SPLOSH! by David Melling

Imagine 10 ducks lining up one at a time to get into a pool, but by some mishap or another, no duck gets into the pool until the last one comes and there's a big sneeze and they all fall in.  This story is hilarious!  Told in rhyme, each duck is marching up the diving board and just when you think they will dive in, the innertube gets caught in the branch, and each duck has their own silly way of avoiding the pool until at last they all fall in.  Every time I read this book I notice a different duck doing something funny.  You will enjoy reading this with your little ones. Count along with Splosh the Duck!

This book and puzzle set are great for young kids to connect letters, sounds, pictures and question clues.  The book is colorful with 2-6 labeled pictures per letter and 1-2 questions.  It was highly interactive with lots of time for discussion and increasing vocabulary.  The puzzle is two sided with one side being just the capital and lowercase letters and the other side with colorful pictures and words. My 4 year old could do this puzzle all by himself.  My little 1 year old was more interested in the book.  What a great combination for learning the alphabet!

Big Book of My World  by Kali Stileman is an absolutely gorgeous book for young children to discover their world.  This book includes first concepts like counting and opposites.  There are also first words, things to find, favorite things and activities like matching and spotting differences.  Each page is full of bright and beautiful pictures with questions for mom and dad to ask while the little child is enthralled with the pictures.  This is a fantastic book for a young child who is ready to learn about their world.

This new book from Tiger Tales is a perfect book for developing hand and eye coordination (finding pictures and pointing to them).  This book is also great for learning new vocabulary.  Parents and kids will be reaching for this book everyday for new experiences and activities to keep the little brain working.  I know my little girl will blossom in her love for books with this book!

Old MacDonald Had a Farm Book Review (Tiger Tales)

Old MacDonald Had a Farm  illustrated by Hannah Wood brings 12 familiar children's songs with sweet illustrations in a sturdy board book.  Babies and young children will learn these songs quickly and enjoy the colorful pictures.  The songs are short, but filled with great rhymes and parents are sure to be asked to read this book over and over again.

This new book from Tiger Tales is a great first board book for babies and young toddlers.  Children need to be exposed to nursery rhymes and traditional songs early in life.  And it's very helpful for parents to not have to think of all these songs off the top of their head, but to have a cute little book to cuddle up with their child and sing away.  Have fun!
